Its members were raised in Upshur, Augusta, Highland, Bath, Pendleton, and Rockbridge counties. The unit participated in Lee's \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=wv005\"\u003eCheat Mountain\u003c\/a\u003e Campaign and Jackson's Valley operations before being assigned to General Early's, J.R. Jones', and W.Terry's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. It took an active part in the campaigns of the army from the Seven Days' Battles to \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va062\"\u003eCold Harbor\u003c\/a\u003e, then fought with Early in the Shenandoah Valley and in various conflicts around \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va097\"\u003eAppomattox\u003c\/a\u003e. This regiment reported 18 casualties at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=wv008\"\u003eCamp Alleghany\u003c\/a\u003e, 72 at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va102\"\u003eMcDowell\u003c\/a\u003e, and 29 at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va105\"\u003eCross Keys\u003c\/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va106\"\u003ePort Republic\u003c\/a\u003e. It lost 1 killed and 24 wounded at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va022\"\u003eCedar Mountain\u003c\/a\u003e, had 3 killed and 20 wounded at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=md003\"\u003eSharpsburg\u003c\/a\u003e, and reported 1 killed and 13 wounded at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va028\"\u003eFredericksburg\u003c\/a\u003e. Of the 280 engaged at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=pa002\"\u003eGettysburg\u003c\/a\u003e, twenty-five percent were disabled. There were no members of the 25th at Appomattox on April 9, 1865. The field officers were Colonels John C. Higginbotham, George A. Porterfield, and George H. Smith; Lieutenant Colonels Patrick B. Duffy, Jonathon M. Heck, Robert D. Lilley, and John A. Robinson; and Majors Wilson Harper, Albert G. Reger, and William T.
