The regiment lost fifty-one percent of the 432 engaged at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=ar008\"\u003eHelena\u003c\/a\u003e, then skirmished in some minor actions in Arkansas and Louisiana. It was included in the surrender on June 2, 1865. Colonel Samuel S. Beal, Lieutenant Colonel Jeptha C. Johnson, and Major T. H. Blacknall were in command.\u003c\/dd\u003e\n\u003c\/dl\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginally organized as the 1st Trans-Mississippi Infantryand then the 29th Arkansas Infantry, the 37th Arkansas Infantry was accepted into the Confederate service on June 6, 1862. The 37th Arkansas was also known as Bell's Regiment, for it was commanded by Colonel Samuel S. Bell.
