It fought in the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va089\"\u003ePetersburg\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan\u003e trenches north and south of the James River and around \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=va097\"\u003eAppomattox\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. This regiment contained 341 effectives in April, 1862 and lost more than half of the 409 engaged at \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/civilwar\/search-battles-detail.htm?battleCode=pa002\"\u003eGettysburg\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan\u003e.
