As adopted for officer use in 1851, the cloak coat would be utilized throughout the Federal armies during the Civil War. The coat originally was patterned to be closed with a frog closure, however, button variations are not uncommon amongst surviving examples and period images. The coat has a fully detachable cape, two hip pockets, sleeve rank braid, bound silk edge, button closed rear skirt vent, and lined in red, black, or blue per surviving examples.

Please note that the exact shade of lining material and sleeve lining may vary from the images.
