"Built from the Ruins ." - Secession Banner and later newspaper depiction of the newly formed "Southern Republic". The design depicts the foundation of the Southern Republic being built from Texas and Virginia and the keystone of South Carolina amidst the ruined Northern States. The "Palmetto Defender" is set amongst the arms of war and the ruins of the Old Republic.
