Fort Fisher Shirts
The Southern Gibraltar or Fort Fisher was the primary garrison protecting the vital blockade and importation hub of Wilmington, North Carolina. When the fort fell in early 1865 it effectively ended the Confederacy ability to import substantial amounts of arms and equipment from Europe.
The front design is based upon one of the 2nd National garrison flags captured at the fall of the fort. The back design shows the positioning of the fort, correspondingly Cape Fear and Cape Fear River and the other garrisons on the surrounding islands (such as Smith Island - today renamed to Bald Head Island).
