Design based on an original newspaper sketch from Harpers Weekly in February 1863. The anti-war movement was throughout Northern States, but heavily notable in locations such as Ohio. Clement Vallandigham, leader of the Copperheads, coined the slogan: "To maintain the Constitution as it is, and to restore the Union as it was."
