"French Legion" Variant of the Republic of Louisiana Flag Stickers
Another variant of the Republic of Louisiana flag survives that was captured at Port Hudson that nearly conforms to the original design. However, in contrast the official pattern, the canton bears a French tricolor flag with a center yellow star. The "French Legion" raised in New Orleans in July of 1861 was presented with. nearly identical flag with an embroidered inscription "Francis Legion, July 1861" according to the local newspapers. Unfortunately on the colors captured at Port Hudson survived the conflict.
