The flag was carried by Kentucky volunteers during the War of 1812 and was captured by the British Army following the Battle of River Raisin (also known as the Battle of Frenchtown) in January 1813 near present-day Monroe, Michigan. Today, only a watercolor drawing of the remnants exists, as the original flag is lost or nearly disintegrated.
