Secession flag captured with the fall of Utica Missouri by the 16th Illinois. While the pair of the Palmetto and snake is generally imagery linked to South Carolina, its usage was seen across the South as a symbol of resistance. Similar designs are noted amongst two other flags captured in Missouri.
