These are modern all-weather nylon flags for your house or garden based on the original flag carried by the 1st Georgia Volunteers "Southern Guards" Company D.
1st (Ramsey's) Volunteers Infantry Regiment was formed at Macon, Georgia, in April, 1861. The men were raised in the towns and cities of Newnan, Perry, Augusta, Sandersville, Atlanta, Bainbridge, Quitman, Dahlonega, and Columbus. After being stationed at Pensacola it moved to Virginia, served under R.S. Garnett and H.R. Jackson, then during Lee's Cheat Mountain Campaign was attached to General D.S. Donelson's Brigade. In December, with a force of 918 officers and men, it was sent to Winchester and later Lynchburg. The regiment was soon ordered to Macon and mustered out of service. However, many of the men joined the 12th Georgia Artillery Battalion and other Georgia commands.
