This practical work jacket is based on an unknown solider from the 6th North Carolina. Similar to many overshirts, this example retains features similar to that of both a shirt and a jacket - a hybrid of concepts that was popular amongst many units in 1861. It is noted that these show up in several North Carolina units (in various patterns). Additional variations of these jackets are seen within the 11th North Carolina, with various construction methods being present in the different examples. The garment has a standing trimmed collar, trimmed cuffs, waistband, and closed North Carolina or civilian buttons. The work jacket is completely lined in cotton per the images and other surviving examples.
