The pattern 1817/32 United States overcoat would be the primary military overcoat utilized by the army during the Seminole Wars, Mexican American War, and the actions on the Western Frontier. The coat was originally issued in gray, but in 1832 the coat was changed to sky blue. It would be replaced with the M1851 overcoat (which would be the primary coat utilized during the Civil War), but small lingering older patterns appear in some units in 1860.

While there are no surviving originals, reproductions of this pattern were made in the 1870s for display use and in conjunction with the historical written text and regulations, the court has been reconstructed.

Full length overcoat with short cape, adjustment belt, tall standing collar, half lined, and closed with general service buttons.

As per all pre Civil War and Schuylkill produced garments, original are completely hand sewn. Beauregard's Tailor's reproduction has all visible work completed by hand.
