Based on an image from Company I of the 42nd Mississippi, this uniform consists of a fine plaid overshirt (trimmed on the placket, cuffs, waistband, and pockets. Two outside pockets and a false lapel. This design of garment is similar to the common civilian work jackets of the 1850s. This is paired with a matching pair of trousers.
