Alabama Contract Tait Jacket 1865
Alabama Contract Tait Jacket 1865
During the 1864, the State of Alabama contracted with the Peter Tait Company to purchase jacket "kits". These kits would include pre-cut garment pieces to be constructed in the Southern Confederacy. These jacket would be cut similar to the more famed Tait Jackets, but would be constructed similar to the Department of Alabama jackets.
Per the surviving original, the reproduction is made from English Army Cloth, trimmed in imports blue, and closed with Federal eagle buttons. Unlike the imported completed jackets, the jacket is hand sewn in undyed cotton thread, lined in osanburg, and features a number of unusual construction methods.
