The Alabama sack coat is based upon a series of images from Alabama regiments from 1861-1863, and appear to be some form of state level issuance in conjunction with their more famed state shell jackets. The images are spread across units and brigades, ranging from those serving within the Army of Northern Virginia, Army of Tennessee, Army of Mississippi, and various smaller commands.

While there are some variations within the pattern, the overall cut appears to be a long sack coat (squared), with 5 wooden buttons, standing collar, and a large outside pocket. They appear to be made from rough wool jean cloth and they appear to be hand sewn. The reproduction captures each of these features.
