"Appler" Trousers - Vicksburg Campaign 1863
"Appler" Trousers - Vicksburg Campaign 1863
The trousers are based on a surviving pair of trousers worn by John Thomas Appler, Company H, 1st Missouri Infantry, in Mississippi, May 1863. These represent an excellent example of the trousers issued to the Missourians of the Army of Mississippi during the battle surrounding Vicksburg and the associated siege.
The trousers are made from jean and lined in cotton osnaburg. The garments is complimented with mule-ear pockets, watch pocket, adjustable belt, and back darts (similar to the Columbus Depot Trousers). Interesting features include top stitching down the side seam along the outside edge of the pocket and unusual mule-ear pocket shape.
