The jacket is based on a surviving example worn by John Thomas Appler, Company H, 1st Missouri Infantry, in Mississippi, May 1863. These represent an excellent example of the jackets issued to the Missourians of the Army of Mississippi  during the battle surrounding Vicksburg and the associated siege.

The jacket is made from a grayish/tan jean cloth, lined in cotton osaburg, has an outside pocket, inside jean patch pocket, and closed with Federal buttons.
