Among the many garments pressed into service by the forces of Missouri and Arkansas, the simple wool overshirt in various plaids appear to be common place in the opening year of the war. These shirt appear to be basic “ready-made” civilian overshirts, made from various cotton and woolen materials. While trimmed patterns are present many untrimmed goods are well documented within the ranks of the Trans-Mississippi forces.
The shirts are made from plaid wool flannels, exact cloth my vary.
