Confederate 4- Button Jacket
Confederate 4- Button Jacket
A wide range of "Four-Button" Confederate jackets (typically longer than standard shell jackets) have surfaced over the years. The exact origins of these garments is unclear, whereas they appear in images and surviving examples from nearly all fronts of the conflict. While they all vary in detail, the overall concept in patterning remains relatively consistent, with a one piece sleeve and four piece body (generally have at least one outside pocket).
The example offered here is based on an unidentified image showing a variant that included two lower outside pockets and a trimmed collar. This variation also deviates from the others with its more rounded sack coat like front.
