The Confederate Officer Frock coat is iconic to the Southern Cause, however other garments such as shell jackets and sack coats are also seen within the officer corp. This example is based on a surviving example directly linked to the Army of Northern Virginia during the Gettysburg Campaign. The sack coat was made from cadet broadcloth and patterned similar to that of many Federal officer private purchase blouses. The original coat was ranked with only collar rank, no Austrian braid.
