Confederate Overshirt 1861-1862
Confederate Overshirt 1861-1862
Seen throughout the South, the simple civilian overshirt pressed into military service is seen across all of the armies of the Confederacy in the opening year of the conflict. From the gates of Richmond to Missouri, these simple shirts were used both at an individual level, but at times even to given a semblance of uniformity to the company and regiments.
The shirt is constructed per surviving civilian examples and can be made in the common colors seen during the war. Additionally such woolen shirts are ideal for the wool issue shirts that show up in returns of various Confederate units throughout the war.
