Corsican "Liberty" Caps
A symbol of revolution in the 18th & 19th Century, the caps were a well known identifying feature of the early volunteers. The symbology was clear to the Southern volunteers, being present in various state seals - most notably that of North Carolina.
The caps were worn singularly or paired with more conventional headgear (caps and hats). Photographic evidence shows their use both under the conventional cap/hat or worn over. Sizing of these appears to have been a simply dart determined and applied by the end user, with the production being made in one large size.
