Gettysburg Prisoner Shirt
Gettysburg Prisoner Shirt
Based the famed image of Confederates captured at Gettysburg, the shirt represents a commonly seen style of mass production garments issued to Southern forces. Similar to ones linked to the Army of Tennessee and even the Federal issue shirts, the design is the essence of practicality and efficiency in production.
The shirt is made from cotton with a vent placket and single piece sleeves. The shirt does not have any pockets, gussets, or cuffs. It is historically unclear if this was a product of Richmond Clothing Bureau or another production facility. However, it is solidly linked to the Army of Northern Virginia in the summer of 1863.
