Houston Quartermaster Uniform Set
Houston Quartermaster Uniform Set
Widely issued in the Trans-Mississippi from 1862 through the end of the war, undyed wool, wool jean, and cotton uniforms made up a material portion of the depot production within this region. This example represents those produced as part of the Houston Quartermaster system, particularly those utilizing the cloth produced at the Huntsville Penitentiary. Unlike most depot systems, Houston issued both summer and winter examples of their garments for use.
While no examples survive today, the written descriptions provide for an excellent basis for these garments. The written descriptions include data on the patterning, construction and materials for these garments.
