Mississippi Overshirt 1861-1862
Mississippi Overshirt 1861-1862
Seen throughout the South, the simple civilian overshirt pressed into military service is seen across all of the armies of the Confederacy in the opening year of the conflict. From the gates of Richmond to Missouri, these simple shirts were used both at an individual level, but at times even to given a semblance of uniformity to the company and regiments.
The shirt is constructed per surviving civilian examples and can be made in the common colors seen during the war. The patterning of the shirt is based on a surviving image from the State of Mississippi. Per the image, the shirt has a trimmed collar, closed with three buttons, and cuff less sleeves. Collar trim will match the body of the shirt.
