Missouri Bushwhacker Shirt (Checked) 1861-1865
Missouri Bushwhacker Shirt (Checked) 1861-1865
Possibly the most famed of all Civil War shirts, the trimmed overshirt worn by various militias and irregular forces of Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas would gain fame and infamy with the actions of their owners. While no surviving examples of these shirts have surfaced various known images do show common styles of overshirts utilized. However, it must also be noted that based on the majority of the images and written accounts, plain civilian clothing was still in the vas majority of these forces.
The reproduction shirt is based on an image believed to have been taken in Lexington, Missouri. The shirt is made from a checked cloth and trimmed in velvet.
