North Carolina State Issue Sack Coat
North Carolina State Issue Sack Coat
The North Carolina State Sack Coat was issued to the start forces from 1861-1862, and represents the primary state issue garment for the initial years of the war. The coats show up in hundreds of known images, with minor deviations in style.
Per the regulations, the infantry coats were to be trimmed in black, cavalry yellow, and artillery red. The body of the coat is made from a grey on natural jean cloth, lined in cotton osanburg, and closed with state buttons. The construction is a mix of machine and hand sewing per the original garments.
