As part of the wide range of goods imported into the Southern Confederacy, finished garments made their way to the armies in the last year of the war. These jackets were primarily produced by the Peter Tait company and ranged in various patterns and trim styles. The first batches of the Tait Jackets would reach the Army of Northern Virginia in late 1864 and early 1865, however, these garments would arrive in the various coastal departments and Trans-Mississippi Theater early in 1864.
