Based on an image of a image of a member of Boone's Louisiana Battery captured at Port Hudson, this jacket is an excellent representation of the undyed garments issued to the Army of Mississippi during 1862-1863. The jacket is constructed from undyed jean cloth, lined in cotton osanburg, and has one inside patch pocket. Per other known similar examples, the jacket is heavily machine sewn, with the seams being machine felled for additional strengthening. The jacket is closed with a 6 button front, 6 piece body, and 1 piece sleeve.
