"Pro aris et focis" - "for hearth and home" - 3rd Georgia Regimental House Flag
"Pro aris et focis" - "for hearth and home" - 3rd Georgia Regimental House Flag
These are modern all-weather nylon flags for your house or garden based on the original flag carried by the 3rd Georgia Infantry.
Design based on original sketches and written description of the regimental flag, which did not survive the war.
The flag is an iron fist holding a short spear (similar in design to the famed Bedford Flag from the Revolution). Wreathed around the design is that of oak and laurel. Below is inscribed "Pro aris et focis" - "for hearth and home". The obverse is the seal of Georgia, with notation to the presentation of the flag to the 3rd Georgia and the lady that produced it. This is flanked by cotton and wheat.
The flag was carried by the 3rd Georgia until May 1863, when it was heavily damaged and sent to Richmond for storage. It is believed that it was destroyed in the evacuation of the city in 1865.
