Richmond Clothing Bureau Jacket 1863 Transitional Variant
Richmond Clothing Bureau Jacket 1863 Transitional Variant
Based on a surviving example and a number of surviving photos, there was a transitional trimmed jacket (epaulets) between the fulled trimmed Richmond Jackets of 1862 into the untrimmed patterns of 1863. The amount of these is not clear, given the few known examples to have survived during this period.
While periodically photographed, there is only one known example of a partially trimmed Richmond Clothing Bureau Jacket (Royall). Two examples are offered, one based on the Royall Jacket and a second based on the machine sewn examples issued at the same period of production.
Additional information regarding the jacket may be found here.
