Richmond Clothing Bureau Trousers (English Import Cloth) 1863-1865
Richmond Clothing Bureau Trousers (English Import Cloth) 1863-1865
Private Henry Redwood of the 3rd Virginia Infantry, Local Defense Regiment was issued a pair of government-made pants in August 1864. This garment is a characteristic example of the pants produced by the Richmond Clothing Bureau. Constructed of imported English “sky blue” or “royal blue” kersey, lined in the same cotton osanburg used to make shirts and drawers and line jackets and caps, and exhibiting the same “closed” buttonhole fly facing seen in other nearly identical pants with ANV provenance, Redwood’s pants typify those issued by the hundreds of thousands to troops serving in Virginia in the latter half of the war.
Today they are in the collection of the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, Virginia.
These reproduction trousers are available in English Import Blue or English Army Cloth.
