Based on a shirt worn by a member of the 39th Mississippi, the shirt is indicative of the style of issue shirt worn by Southern forces during the war. The shirt is made from cotton osanburg or wool flannel, vented placket, and one outside pocket. The shirt is not dissimilar to that of the Federal issue shirt in general patterning concept, although simplified. It is also very similar to another example worn by a captured Southerner at Gettysburg - offered here.
